New Learners and Speakers

Create opportunities for learners and new speakers to practice and enjoy the Welsh language

We work closely with Learn Welsh Pembrokeshire to ensure that new learners and speakers feel part of the community, regardless of how much Welsh they have. Whether you are starting your language journey or wish to gain confidence in using the language, we create supportive and friendly opportunities where you can practice Welsh in a relaxed atmosphere. Our aim is to encourage the natural use of the Welsh language making everyone feel comfortable speaking it in their everyday life.

Coffi a Chlonc

Every month, we hold Coffi a Chlonc sessions in several locations across the county, including Narberth, St Dogmaels, Fishguard and Pembroke Dock and one on-line. These sessions have become very popular, with many local people coming together to enjoy a cuppa, a chat and good company.
The coffee mornings are open to everyone, native speakers and learners who wish to use or learn more of the language in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

If you would like to join our sessions for a cuppa and a chat or to meet new people, please contact us for more information.

Y Cwis Mawr (The Big Quiz)

The Big Quiz is one of the national activities of Mentrau Iaith Cymru, where teams from all over the country compete in a fun and informative Welsh language quiz. The winning team has the opportunity to represent the area in the National Eisteddfod, adding to the excitement and competitive spirit. We collaborate very closely with Learn Welsh Pembrokeshire to host the quiz, ensuring an inclusive and welcoming experience for learners.

Gŵyl y Dysgwyr

Another annual event is the Learners' Festival held at Scolton Manor in conjunction with Learn Welsh Pembrokeshire. The festival offers a variety of interactive activities, and past activities have included gardening lessons, creative art sessions, language games, singing, opportunities to socialize and an awards ceremony. The day is always full of excitement, bringing learners together to enjoy an inspiring, supportive and welcoming experience that encourages confident use of the Welsh language.

Gŵyl Fach yr Hydref

As well as the Summer Festival, a smaller one is held just after the start of the teaching year. This offers learners an opportunity to meet and socialize with other learners and to take part in seasonal activities through the medium of Welsh. It can also include a walk or a visit from a speaker or performer. Again it is a joint activity with Learn Welsh Pembrokeshire and the location varies from year to year.

Opportunities to Socialize

Working closely with Learn Welsh Pembrokeshire, the Initiative creates opportunities for learners to socialize with other learners from across the county. This includes celebrating Christmas with lunch or afternoon tea, a walk and dinner at the end of the learning year, and a summer trip to interesting places. Of course, they will also join in community events throughout the year, and many volunteer in activities such as the St David's Day Parade.
